Those who follow mine and Martin&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.intranetfocus.com\/archives\/2092\" target=\"_blank\">musings <\/a>might recall the event <strong><em>&#8216;The Future for Legal KIM: an outside in perspective&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>. Our aim was to present our thoughts to a group of Legal KIM&#8217;ers and seek their views.<\/p>\n<p>These were the topics we foresaw as being important in 2015:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lawyers come and go \u2013 capturing knowledge at speed<\/li>\n<li>Collaboration and KM beyond the firewall<\/li>\n<li>Getting the best from virtual teams<\/li>\n<li>Bringing it all together \u2013 legal project management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A<a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Legal-KIM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1359\" src=\"http:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Legal-KIM-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Legal KIM\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Legal-KIM-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Legal-KIM-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Legal-KIM-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Legal-KIM.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>s it turned out we were not far off the mark as the feedback from the postcards we invited the delegates to write on indicated.<\/p>\n<p>Once we consolidated all the replies on the day an interesting picture emerged.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Scores-on-the-doors.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1360 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Scores-on-the-doors-300x72.jpg\" alt=\"Scores on the doors\" width=\"357\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a> (Click on the picture below to make it more visible)<\/p>\n<p>In law firms of more than 250 partners the biggest issues were around virtual teams and project management. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Yet all acknowledged they were not yet in a state of readiness to tackle them.<\/span> <\/strong>Among the smaller players the biggest worry was around loss of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>other priorities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not unsurprisingly the comments provided a valuable insight into their thinking.\u00a0 Smaller firms (at the start of their KIM journey) were looking for basic KM:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Basic entry level km &#8211; completely new to it \/ evolving information research service &amp; integrating with K activities<\/li>\n<li>Provision of rapid and easy access to previously captured knowledge \/ Technology to simplify the process of intergration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Larger firms wanted something different (note the reptition of collaboration):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaboration inside the firewall \/ Expertise locating<\/li>\n<li>Combining &amp; improving KM systems \/ Organising our know how in a better way across the whole organisation<\/li>\n<li>Support dept personalities working together (Marketing collaborating with IS, KM)\u00a0 \/ Improve collaboration generally<\/li>\n<li>Content clutter and records management \/ Risk &amp; Security \/ Knowledge &amp; UT goals &amp; Strategy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So much to ponder on &#8211; watch this space for answers!<\/p>\n<p><strong>and finally<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Grateful thanks to the four people who made contributions to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planzheroes.org\" target=\"_blank\">Plan Zheroes <\/a>(the event&#8217;s nominated charity).\u00a0 For those who forgot and anyone else who feels moved to contribute, they can do so<a href=\"https:\/\/mydonate.bt.com\/donation\/donation.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong> here<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PZ-Virtual-Presence.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1357\" src=\"http:\/\/www.knowledgeetal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/PZ-Virtual-Presence-300x217.jpg\" alt=\"PZ Virtual Presence\" width=\"385\" height=\"282\" \/><\/a>This Thursday the Plan Zheores team are at London&#8217;s GLA for the launch of their new virtual presence which has the potential to make PZ the &#8216;Uber of surplus food&#8217;.
